I think Ross is falling prey to Sturgeon's Law - the movies and TV shows from the '70s that are still watched are the 10% that are classics, and he is young enough to not remember that 90% of what was out back then was complete crap.
I was born in '68 and I remember a lot of terrible TV and movies in the '70s and '80s!
Yeah, it’s like the people who look at great old pieces of furniture and complain that furniture was built to last 200 years ago but now you’re lucky if a dresser you buy brand new lasts for ten years. They don’t take into account the fact that tons of crappy furniture was built in the 18th and 19th centuries but it long ago fell apart and got used as firewood.
I remember watching the “I Love the 70s” series on VH1 when I was growing up and I couldn’t believe my parents’ generation watched so many crappy shows. Then I remembered there were only three channels.
Absolutely correct. And nowadays, even when I rewatch some of the so called quality programs of the era, like All in the Family, they usually strike me as pretty bad.
